My background
Welcome to my practice. My name is Jessie Bannister and I’m a licensed therapist that has been in the mental health field since 2012. Before becoming a therapist I focused on a career in the corporate world. What I came to realize was that, though there were rewarding parts of my job, I was really most drawn to the interpersonal and relational aspects of my work. This realization ultimately helped direct me towards my true calling as a therapist. And if you’re wondering … I’ve been on the client side too. Therapy has helped me live more fully and a process I believe deeply in. I share these details with you in service of removing the stigma associated with reaching out. We’re all a work in progress.
what i’m like as a therapist
My therapeutic approach is warm, evidence-based, collaborative and effective. Since I have walked different paths in my own life, I think you will find my approach to be non-judgmental, down to earth and practical. I help each client find their right combination of personal insight, skill building and being actionable to create successful and effective therapy.
MY EXPERIENCE
I’m a board certified psychotherapist and a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I’ve had the pleasure of providing therapy services in Marin, Sonoma, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties since 2012. During this time I’ve served clients with diverse backgrounds, life experiences and issues that brought them to therapy. I’ve worked in a range of settings including K-12 school districts, college campuses, community health organizations and major medical facilities. I ultimately chose to transition to private practice because it allowed me to have greater flexibility in how I support my clients. In 2020 I transitioned to a hybrid of tele-therapy and in-person psychotherapy.
How I work
I am an integrated therapist meaning I draw from different modalities that I strongly believe in including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
